30 minutes until closing time, I decided to disappear from the office and attend another "meeting" still within the confines of Victoria Island.

Anyone working in that area knows, when you have to move, you MOVE!

OKADA ! Sanusi Fafunwa, I told him. N100 he said, out of the N600 I had in my pocket, that seemed somewhat fair. I hopped on and we navigated the madness of rush hour traffic.

Upon entering a major road, suddenly, he passes his passenger helmet to me. Which is a no-no for me... Until his bike is stopped by the regular Thugs in Uniform (I'm not sure what they are called, so for the purpose of this story, we will call them Thugs in Uniforms), presumably to buy a jurisdiction ticket or whatever, he tries to resist, but it is futile, as he is put to a halt.

Not paying attention, I become the topic of discussion, which goes as follows:

Thug in Uniform(T.I.U): Oga why you no wear your helmet?

"The look of confusion on my face I imagine must be priceless."

Me: Oga no vex, I no go do am again I know no.

T.I.U: Bros, that one no dey oh. Na N5,500 you go pay.

Pocket: N600, Okada Fee: N100. Immediate cash: N500.

Time: 5 minutes past my meeting time.

After going back on forth, about beating the price down and not have N5,500. I gave him my entire life savings at the time, lol… (N500) got on the bike and put on my Helmet, proceed to the venue of my "meeting". With only on thought in my head.

Watching Movies On A Budget

During these tough economic times, nothing makes me happier than random savings.

I just finished a stress NYSC day and I over heard someone say "Bourne Legacy" was showing at SILVERBIRD.

I only had 2k to my name, but I was determined to watch this movie.

I went from my LG to the Galleria in my NYSC uniform.

I'm running a few minutes late so I'm slightly irritated when I get to the counter to pay for my ticket.

The man standing behind the counter yells out "corpershaun" I respond with a blank stare and
"One for Bourne legacy."

He said "N500" and the look on my face led him to add "as a corper".

I had a huge grin on my face and all but skipped into the screen room.

Anyway here's my point. Go to Silverbird cinema in your NYSC uniform and see a movie for N500.

Too embarrassed to wear the uniform? Not a problem...go with your NYSC ID you will still receive the discount.

So, it only occurred to post this, after I had left the cinema. So here is a picture of me, during camp.

Happy Independence Day

52 years in, and still struggling to meet the most basic of needs. Still, I am loyal to my country.
